Ant-Man, released in 2015, represented the culmination of nearly a decade of delays, directorial shake-ups and numerous script revisions. Showcasing a most unlikely of cinematic centerpieces with a version of Marvel’s proportionally protean Avenger team member, the payoff would be substantial, yielding a $519.3 million global gross.

Director Peyton Reed returns behind the camera for Ant-Man & The Wasp with star Paul Rudd as the shrinking hero, with Evangeline Lilly as the Wasp. The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s smallest (and biggest) superhero(es) is back in front of the cameras at Atlanta’s Pinewood facility, which has been the home of many Marvel productions to date.

Ant-Man and the Wasp News

The title-touted team-up of Ant-Man and the Wasp has, for the first time, been unveiled with Marvel officially releasing an image of Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang/Ant-Man and Evangeline Lilly’s Hope van Dyne/The Wasp fully suited up, helmeted and ready for size-varying action.

In addition to that reveal, Marvel has released a new official synopsis for the film…

From the Marvel Cinematic Universe comes Ant Man and the Wasp, a new chapter featuring heroes with the astonishing ability to shrink. In the aftermath of “Captain America: Civil War,” Scott Lang grapples with the consequences of his choices as both a Super Hero and a father. As he struggles to rebalance his home life with his responsibilities as Ant-Man, he’s confronted by Hope van Dyne and Dr. Hank Pym with an urgent new mission. Scott must once again put on the suit and learn to fight alongside the Wasp as the team works together to uncover secrets from the past.

Back on August 28, Evangeline Lilly revealed the very first look at Hope Van Dyne in costume, appropriately enough, on what would have been Jack Kirby’s 100th birthday.

That’s a pretty cool looking costume.

Ant-Man & The Wasp Release Date

Ant-Man & The Wasp opens on July 6th, 2018.

Marvel kicked off its production on August 1, 2017 with a teaser video that showcases the film’s logo and culminates with a set of appropriately-tiny director’s chairs.

Ant-Man & The Wasp Cast

Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly and Michael Peña will all reprise their Ant-Man roles, as will their characters’ sagely overseer Michael Douglas, who revealed the state of his goatee on Facebook in his confirmation for the production’s July 2017 kickoff David Dastmalchian returns, as will rapper/actor T.I.

As for new characters…

Michelle Pfeiffer is Janet van Dyne, the mother of Evangeline Lilly’s Hope van Dyne. Janet is the original Wasp. Hope received her mother’s suit at the end of Ant-Man. This news was revealed at the Marvel Studios SDCC panel. Laurence Fishburne (The Matrix) is Dr. Bill Foster. Walton Goggins (The Hateful Eight) is playing Sonny Burch.

Randall Park (Fresh Off the Boat) will play Jimmy Woo, a SHIELD agent familiar to fans of Marvel’s Agents of Atlas series. The character of Woo has actually been around since the pre-SHIELD days of the 1950s, although he became a SHIELD agent when characters from the earlier comics were absorbed into the Marvel Universe in the 1960s.

Hannah John-Kamen will apparently have a “key role” in the film, according to Variety. The U.K.-born Hannah John-Kamen, known for her role on the space-set Syfy ensemble series Killjoys. John-Kamen has been notably seen in two separate episodes of the popular horror anthology series Black Mirror, fielded a recurring role on Game of Thrones in 2016’s Season 6 and played a nameless First Order officer in 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens. She’ll also appear in Steven Spielberg’s 2018 video game-centric sci-fi thriller Ready Player One and have a supporting role in director Roar Uthaug’s 2018 Tomb Raider reboot film, which stars Alicia Vikander as the new Lara Croft.

Judy Greer is confirmed for a return in Ant-Man & The Wasp (via Deadline). The actress appeared in 2015’s original Ant-Man as Maggie, the ex-wife of Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang/Ant-Man and mother of his daughter. Maggie’s engagement to police detective Paxton (Bobby Cannavale) made things awkward for (former thief) Scott’s secret size-adjusting superhero exploits. It will be interesting to catch up with Maggie, who clearly still has residual feelings for Scott, and see how she reacted to everything that went down in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, which left Scott a fugitive, due to his involvement in Captain America’s anti-Sokovia Accords rebellion.

Ant-Man & The Wasp Villain

Peyton Reed confirmed at a press event for the Ant-Man Blu-ray last year (with Den of Geek‘s Don Kaye in attendance) that they already have a “definite take” on who the villain will be this time around. That’s all they said.
