Its running total at the worldwide box office now sits at $1.6 billion and counting (after reaching $1 billion in record time), with the movie soon set to break through the $2 billion barrier. We think by this stage we can thus conclude that Avengers: Infinity War has been something of a hit.

And just imagine the business it’s going to do on home formats. The film will, of course, be appearing on demand, on DVD and on Blu-ray later this year. It’s also set to get a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release, and the movie is up for pre-order in all the usual places.

According to The Digital Bits, Disney is looking at a US release date of August 14th for the movie. A streaming release is likely a week or two earlier. This hasn’t been officially announced yet, and the date may wiggle. But it’s a good source, and the date sounds around about right.

There’s no word yet on what bonus content might be included, but Marvel home releases are usually pretty packed and there is likely a plethora of material regarding the development of this movie, the logistics of making it happen, and the context of it coming out on the 10th anniversary of the creation of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

But the bigger question is, will they tell us the name of Avengers 4 by the time this arrives? That remains a mystery for now.
