Sony’s planned Barbie movie was all set to go ahead with Amy Schumer in the title role, before scheduling conflicts led her to pull out of the project. Since then, things seem to have been in limbo for a bit.

Anne Hathaway was said to be the most likely candidate for the title role. Assuming Hathaway sticks around for the project, she’ll be playing the role of the misfit Barbie in a world of otherwise perfect ones. Currently in line to direct the film is Alethea Jones, with Hilary Winston said to be writing the script.

Originally scheduled for release in 2018, that’s clearly not happening, so Sony has shuffled the release date further down the line. All the way to May 8, 2020.

Casting has yet to be confirmed, and we’ll keep you posted as and when we hear more.
