More Fast & Furious films have been inked in for April 2019 and April 2021…
The Fast and the Furious franchise isn’t slowing down anytime soon.
ERC has confirmed that Fast & Furious 9 will be released on April 19th, 2019. Then, Fast & Furious 10 is set for April 2nd, 2021.
Vin Diesel has said before that 8, 9, and 10 will form one final trilogy for the series. Yet if they keep making lots and lots of cash at the box office, don’t be surprised if another film pops along in April 2023.
It’s going to be one hell of a boxset when these are all done…
Fast & Furious 9 is going to be a different look for the franchise as it is getting its first new writer since the second installment, 2 Fast 2 Furious.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, writer Daniel Casey is set to take over screenwriting duties from Chris Morgan. Morgan has written every installment of the series since 2006’s The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. Morgan left the main franchise to pen the Hobbs & Shaw spinoff starring Vin Diesel and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
Casey is best known for writing the upcoming sci-fi thriller Kin, which debuts on August 31 of this year, though THR notes that it was his upcoming J.J. Abrams-produced superhero take The Heavy, that endeared him to Fast execs.
Justin Lin has already been confirmed to return to direct Fast & Furious 9, returning to the franchise after taking some time off for Star Trek Beyond. Lin previously directed Fast installments 3 – 6.
