It: Chapter 2 is courting some serious actorly talent. According to Variety, James McAvoy and Bill Hader are both in talks for starring roles in the It sequel. The two actors would join Jessica Chastain, who has already officially been cast in the New Line film.

It Sequel Cast

According to the Variety report, McAvoy and Hader would play the adult versions of two of the main characters from the first film. McAvoy is in talks to fill the role of Bill, originally played by Jaeden Lieberher, while Hader would play the role of Richie, originally played by Finn Wolfhard. Chastain has been cast as Beverly. Bill Skarsgard is expected to return as Pennywise, and the younger cast members are expected to return in some flashbacks.

While we may be looking at a mainly new cast, director Andy Muschietti will be back to direct, with Gary Dauberman (who co-wrote the first film) penning the script.

It Sequel Release Date

It: Chapter Two is slated for a September 6, 2019 release, with production expected to start this coming summer.

With the first film in the franchise grossing a massive $700 million worldwide, with $327 of that coming in domestically, the sequel is sure to be one of the most anticipated films of 2019 (which, granted, still feels pretty far away). We’ll be sure to keep you updated on any casting or other news announcements.
