Jesse Eisenberg has been talking about his role in the DC Extended Universe, and his wish to return to the role of Lex Luthor…
Justice League spoilers lie ahead
Jesse Eisenberg debuted his take on the character of Lex Luthor in Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice, a movie that wasn’t particularly well received. We thought we’d see the character, though, returning with interest in Justice League but – assumed as a consequence of the cuts to that film – Luthor only pops up in a post-credits sequence in the movie.
Eisenberg played a different kind of Lex Luthor than most fans were accustomed to, playing him as a boyish, irritating tech billionaire, one that seemed at odds with the calculating super scientist the character has been known as. It was still an interesting take, though, and his appearance in the Justice League post-credits scenes also seemed to indicate an evolution of the character.
With Warner Bros apparently now retooling the DC Extended Universe, where that leaves the cast of Zack Snyder’s pair of movies remains to be seen. But in a new interview, Jesse Eisenberg has thrown his hat into the ring for a return.
When asked if he’d be playing the role again, he told Variety that “I hope so. I mean, I have no idea is the truth. I love playing the character. Probably in terms of movie acting, it’s the most enjoyable character I’ve had the opportunity to play. So I would love to do it again,” he said.
He did add though that “but I don’t know what their slate is. If you have any pull, please use it.”
Eisenberg also confirmed that his role in Justice League was always set to be on the smaller side, and only at the end of the credts. It remains to be seen whether his version of Lex Luthor will appear again.
