Rambo 5 is back on, and Sylvester Stallone might direct as well as star.
Well, it looks like John Rambo is at it again. There are reliable reports that Rambo 5 is about to get underway, with Sylvester Stallone returning to star and possibly direct. He’s also writing the screenplay. And this time, Rambo 5 will see Stallone’s John headed south of the border to take on the drug cartels. Avi Lerner will prodcue.
According to Deadline, the story of Rambo 5 is…
“When the daughter of one of his friends is kidnapped, Rambo, who has been working on a ranch, crosses the U.S.-Mexican border and quickly finds himself up against the full might of one of Mexico’s most violent cartels.”
If Sylvester Stallone does indeed decide to direct this instalment, it wouldn’t be such a bad idea. 2008’s Rambo was a pleasant surprise, and proved, once again, that age doesn’t seem to be much of an obstacle for Stallone to step into his iconic roles. Then again, that was a decade ago.
The best part of all of this, though, is that it would appear to kill off any talk of the Rambo reboot that surfaced a couple of years back. This would have seen John Rambo reimagined as kind of an American James Bond. There had even been talk of a TV series, Rambo: New Blood, which would have introduced Rambo Jr. to the proceedings.
Apparently the plan is to start shooting in September, which means we could see Rambo 5 as early as 2020. But this is far from the first time we’ve heard about a new episode in this franchise, so it’s possible that Rambo 5 might not materialize at all.
