It’s no accident that Dwayne Johnson has become one of the most ubiquitous figures in Hollywood. The killer charisma that put him atop the pro wrestling industry as “The Rock” nearly two decades ago has successfully transitioned into mainstream box office success in an array of lucrative high-profile pictures. However, one project on his docket could see him channeling the smart-alecky one-man-army wit of Bruce Willis’s Die Hard run, only set in China.

Dwayne Johnson stars in the film, which quickly reunites him with his Central Intelligence writer/director Rawson Marshall Thurber.

Skyscraper Trailer

The Skyscraper trailer will make its presumably-explosive debut amongst the advertising blitz of Super Bowl Sunday. The cinematic spectacle’s social-media-savvy star, Dwayne Johnson, revealed this bit of info, along with the first official poster, which, due to its dubious adherence to physics, has already become the subject of a burgeoning Internet meme.

Skyscraper Cast

American Gods star Pablo Schreiber, along with Ghost in the Shell and The Dark Knight‘s Chin Han, will join in on the China-based action of Skyscraper.

On American Gods, Schreiber plays leprechaun Mad Sweeney. He’s also famous for the role of Mendez aka Porn Stache on Orange is the New Black. Han recently starred in Independence Day: Resurgence and popped up on Fox’s Lethal Weapon.

Neve Campbell will also be joining Dwayne Johnson, Deadline reported. While no character details were given for the three, Campbell is said to serve as the film’s co-star, directly opposite Johnson.

Campbell has been on the industry radar, going back to 1991, with early roles in the Jerry O’Connell-starring super-powered teen series My Secret Identity and a memorable sketch on The Kids in the Hall, eventually leading to household name status bestowed by the hit 1994-2000 Fox series Party of Five. She transitioned to film hits, notably 1996 offerings The Craft and horror franchise kick-off Scream (and its three sequels) and a memorably lascivious role in 1998’s Wild Things. More recently, she’s been fielding television runs on The Philanthropist, Titanic: Blood and Steel and is part of the latest seasons of Netflix’s House of Cards.

Skyscraper Story

Skyscraper will see Dwayne Johnson play – surprise, surprise – an all-around badass in a war veteran and former leader of an FBI hostage rescue team who works as a security consultant for skyscrapers. One such assignment in China, assessing the tallest building in the world, goes up in literal flames, leaving him framed for an immense case of arson; one that has left his family trapped in the upper floors. Now on the run, Johnson’s character must clear his name, rescue his family, find the real culprit(s), kick some ass and make things explode along the way. – Quite a to-do list.

For good measure, here’s the official synopsis:

Global icon Dwayne Johnson leads the cast of Legendary’s Skyscraper as former FBI Hostage Rescue Team leader and U.S. war veteran Will Ford, who now assesses security for skyscrapers.  On assignment in China he finds the tallest, safest building in the world suddenly ablaze, and he’s been framed for it.  A wanted man on the run, Will must find those responsible, clear his name and somehow rescue his family who is trapped inside the building…above the fire line.

The Rock himself explained the pertinent details of Skyscraper on his Instagram:

Johnson was a prominent part of the global $1.5 billion bonanza in Furious 7, which generated nearly $391 million in China alone. He’ll reprise the role in Fate of the Furious next month.

Skyscraper Release Date
