Dwayne Johnson stars in Skyscraper. Here's everything we know.
It’s no accident that Dwayne Johnson has become one of the most ubiquitous figures in Hollywood. The killer charisma that put him atop the pro wrestling industry as “The Rock” nearly two decades ago has successfully transitioned into mainstream box office success in an array of lucrative high-profile pictures. However, one project on his docket could see him channeling the smart-alecky one-man-army wit of Bruce Willis’s Die Hard run, only set in China.
Dwayne Johnson stars in the film, which quickly reunites him with his Central Intelligence writer/director Rawson Marshall Thurber.

Skyscraper Release Date
Skyscraper has locked up the primo real estate of July 13, 2018.
American Gods star Pablo Schreiber, along with Ghost in the Shell and The Dark Knight‘s Chin Han, will join in on the China-based action of Skyscraper.
Neve Campbell is said to serve as the film’s co-star, directly opposite Johnson.
Skyscraper will see Dwayne Johnson play – surprise, surprise – an all-around badass in a war veteran and former leader of an FBI hostage rescue team who works as a security consultant for skyscrapers. One such assignment in China, assessing the tallest building in the world, goes up in literal flames, leaving him framed for an immense case of arson; one that has left his family trapped in the upper floors. Now on the run, Johnson’s character must clear his name, rescue his family, find the real culprit(s), kick some ass and make things explode along the way. – Quite a to-do list.
For good measure, here’s the official synopsis:
Global icon Dwayne Johnson leads the cast of Legendary’s Skyscraper as former FBI Hostage Rescue Team leader and U.S. war veteran Will Ford, who now assesses security for skyscrapers. On assignment in China he finds the tallest, safest building in the world suddenly ablaze, and he’s been framed for it. A wanted man on the run, Will must find those responsible, clear his name and somehow rescue his family who is trapped inside the building…above the fire line.
The Rock himself explained the pertinent details of Skyscraper on his Instagram:
BREAKING: Grateful to share this big news. Universal Studios and @Legendary Pictures have declared JULY 13th 2018 SKYSCRAPER weekend. Massive scale of a movie we’ve been developing for almost two years and we start shooting this August – in CHINA. Our script, written and to be directed by Rawson Thurber, focuses on the world’s largest skyscraper – that’s on fire. A towering inferno almost a mile into the sky and my wife and kids are trapped on the top floor. My character is a disabled US War Vet and former FBI Hostage Rescue Team leader. This character is inspired by the thousands of disabled US veterans and war heroes I’ve had the honor of shaking hands with over the years. This character is also an homage to the every day man and woman who, despite all odds, will dig deep and do everything possible to protect and save their family. Research for this film has been a real education for me (and that’s saying a lot considering my horrible freshman year GPA) from meeting with the world’s top skyscraper architects to spending amazing time with our US combat and disabled vets. Good thing I’m not afraid of heights. But at 4,000ft it’s a different story. Let’s get to work. #CHINA #SevenBucksProds #FlynnPicturesCo #Zhao #SKYSCRAPER JULY 13th 2018
Johnson was a prominent part of the global $1.5 billion bonanza in Furious 7, which generated nearly $391 million in China alone. He’ll reprise the role in Fate of the Furious next month.
